JLL analysts researched the future of real estate by combining insights from a wide range of disciplines to explore possible future scenarios and prepare accordingly.

Rather than settling on a single prediction, they focused on a structured, scenario-based approach that enables planning for multiple potential futures.

The research suggested four urgent priorities : climate, people, technology and resilience.

Climate

Everywhere will continue to climate change risks. In this new landscape, environmental regulation and repricing of risk will become more and more pervasive. Therefore, climate resilience will be key. For example, minimizing the impact climate change will become default and the importance of duravility against vairous environmental threats increase.

People

The upheaval people live and work is ongoing and continues to impact the real estate industry. Social impact will become more important to government and companies. How values such as wellness, hospitality and entertainment are  incorporated into environments will be crucial.

Technology

Advanced technolgies such as AI, quantum computin, and robotics will allow the built environment to become part of an interconnected ecosystem, ranging from subtle step changes to fully immersive realities, and affecting everything from design to demolition.

Resilience

Climate change, technology and demographic shifts are continuously influencing real estate investments. VUCA (Volatility,  Uncertainty, Complexity, and Ambiguity) is becoming a fundamental factor for the investment decisions. With these shifts and the new normal in the industry, the necessity of resilient stratigies-such as scenario planning, stress-testing, agile business models and diversification-is increasing.
